Company Logo Design – Cornerstone – Blackburn

Cornerstone is an NHS General Practice, split over four East Lancashire sites; Shadsworth Surgery (Blackburn), Rhyddings Surgery (Oswaldtwistle), Lambeth Street Surgery (Audley) and Bentham Road Health Centre (Blackburn). Following the move into new practice areas we were approached to assist with the development of a new brand, promotional material and website for the practice.
Based over four sites, under one practice title, it was important for Cornerstone to develop a new corporate identity whilst retaining the recognised individuality of each of its local surgeries. With this in mind we created a dual concept design with one logo for the practice itself and individual designs for each of the surgeries. Using the concept of the cornerstone the practice logo was designed using a series of coloured blocks, each representing the individual practices. The iconic style allowed the logo to be used primarily when required or as a secondary reference when the surgeries themselves required greater emphasis.
For each surgery we selected one of the colours from the main logo and used a local landmark or feature for the styling influence. The important element here was that local residents recognised the finished logo as something that was part of their established community. The logos were created with a textured finish mirroring the pencil strokes of a hand drawn piece of work. The colours used in these logos were then carried into individual web pages and surgery information leaflets and promotions.
