Church Logo Design – Hope Church – Edinburgh
22nd June, 2009

Job Description
Hope church is a forward thinking church, based in two cities, Musselburgh and Edinburgh, in Scotland. In order to reflect their values and promote their church within the local community Freckle were approached to assist with the rebrand of the organisation. With many ideas already in place we worked closely with Hope to develop their initial design thoughts into workable logos and an overall brand. The brand needed to reflect the church and those who attend but also appeal to the local communities in which the church is based.
The main requirement that came from Hope was the desire to use the! symbol to emphasise the word Hope, with the word church incorporated into the logo in a way that proposed that their church is a place that offers hope. The church provided a variety of taglines, which again needed to be included within the design. Using a bold green colour for the word Hope and a lighter font for the word church the logo quickly grabs attention. Church is clearly part of the logo but not overstated. Incorporating the ! without gaps between the words introduces the theme that hope comes in the form of church, which was a key element of the brief.
The addition of the tagline in a handwritten style emphasises that the church is based around personal interaction and that being part of their community is key. The phrase ‘everybody needs it’ applies to both hope and church and will resonate with individuals whatever the level of faith.
